South Cumbria duo win Hitched wedding photography award

Darren Hadwen and Costel Amaritei, of Different Angle Photography, are one of the Hitched Wedding Awards 2024 winners in the Wedding Photographers category, making them one of the most recommended professionals by newlyweds on Hitched’s website.

These awards are based on reviews left by married couples in the past year. Different Angle Photography received a total of 27 reviews on their online storefront on Hitched.co.uk and a rating of 5.0 out of 5 determined by the couples who planned their weddings with them.

On winning the award for the second time, Darren, from Stainton with Adgarley, said: “When we won it the first year, it came as a massive surprise.

“To be honest, this year, 2024, we had a little bit of a hint that we might pick it up again. We didn’t know how strict they were with regard to people who won the previous year and whether they could still win again the second year. Obviously, we got established with all those lovely reviews coming in and the portfolio was growing so I had a hint we were in for a good chance to pick it up again.

Commission denies permit for Elon wedding, photo venue

A special use permit request for a couple to operate an Elon home and greenhouse as a venue for weddings and photo shoots and host short-term rentals received a recommendation of denial from the Amherst County Planning Commission.

The commission’s vote Feb. 15 came after a public hearing where several residents raised objections with a use they said disrupted their quiet residential area on Phyllis Lea Drive in the Elon area. The applicant, Alexis Fisher and her husband, had operated without a permit, according to Tyler Creasy, the county’s director of community development.

“This comes up a lot in our office. Individuals don’t know that they need to have special permission to do these types of events and I believe that is the case here,” Creasy told the commission.

Fisher said the couple turned the greenhouse into a successful business and immediately fell in love with the property several years ago.

“We wanted to make an offer even before we entered the front door,” Fisher said. “The beauty here in Elon is absolutely breathtaking.”

Wedding photographer opens up about life after Canterbury helicopter crash

Wedding and portrait photographer Rachel Jordan has spoken of the immense challenges she’s had to overcome following a devastating helicopter crash in Canterbury in 2021 that changed her life.

Two-and-a-half years after the Robinson R44 lost power moments after take-off and plummeted 100 meters to the ground with Jordan, pilot Lynda Harrap, and newlywed couple Fay El Hanafy and Mahdi Zougub on board, Jordan still has problems with her feet, weakness in her hips, and will probably always have back pain.

Despite the severity of her injuries sustained on the Terrace Downs Resort golf course in Mid Canterbury in June 2021, the 44-year-old Kerikeri mum battles every day to overcome them.

Of them all – the fractured ribs and sternum, the lacerated lung, the broken right wrist and fractured bones in her feet and ankles – the worst was the damage to her back and spinal cord.

The back injury caused varying degrees of paralysis in her legs which was frightening, as no one could tell her when, or if, she would walk again.

Jordan, who lives in Northland, admitted she’s not the same person anymore.

Civil servant Shi Hui got married on Dec 31, 2022, but 10 months on, she is still waiting to see the photographs of her dream wedding taken by freelance photographer Alvin Yap.

Ms Shi Hui, 30, has all but given up hope of seeing the photos of her big day that she hired Mr Yap to capture on film. She had found Mr Yap through two bridal showcase events under wedding vendor Blissful Brides that took place in 2022.

Her husband paid the full amount of more than $2,000 for a pre-wedding photo shoot and wedding photography on Jan 19, 2023.

Ms Shi Hui, who declined to give her full name, said Mr Yap promised to deliver all the printed and digital photographs about one to two months after the wedding.

On March 14, Mr Yap sent a text message on WhatsApp saying he had suffered a “storage system crash” and that the photos taken at the wedding were affected.

Ms Shi Hui did not hear again from Mr Yap until April 7, when she and her husband got a text message from him saying he managed to do “data recovery” on his storage system.

A photographer has gone viral for sharing an unusual refund request he apparently received from a former client who’s now divorced and doesn’t want her wedding photos anymore.

Lance Romeo posted screenshots of the reported text correspondence he had with the woman he photographed in 2019.

“I swear my life is a movie…you can’t make this stuff up,” Romeo captioned the screenshots, which he uploaded last month to Facebook where they’ve been shared by thousands of social media users.

BENGALURU: A Bengaluru suede bridegroom wedding photographer who posted pics and videos from the big day on social media platforms without consent. A city consumer court that heard his case recently ruled that the lensman must pay the aggrieved person a compensation of Rs 25,000 for violating the terms of the agreement the parties had arrived at and for posting some select shots and videos on social media.

Wedding photographer Michael Carver was able to capture a “bucket list” of northern lights during a spectacular showing of the aurora while photographing a couple’s big day in the Highlands.

Rebecca MacDonald and Chris Oram were handed a striking backdrop to their wedding pictures in Inverness when the snapper’s girlfriend texted him about the shimmering sky as he packed away his equipment.

He quickly enlisted the help of a smoking guest to usher the lucky couple outside and captured the dazzling moment after using his phone to check where the lights would be visible.

Rebecca, from Inverness, said they were “extremely lucky” to catch the lights, describing it as “perfect” with guests gathered round for their own sneak preview.
