Archivist’s vintage ‘Images of Apollo’ photo prints land on auction

September 8, 2021

— A private archivist known for unearthing rare images from the early years of human spaceflight is now selling a treasure trove of NASA prints representing some of the most iconic photos ever taken.

JL Pickering has dedicated the past 50 years to researching the visual history of space exploration and, in the process, has amassed a collection of more than 150,000 photo prints. Heritage Auctions on Tuesday (Sept. 7) began accepting bids on several hundred of Pickering’s pieces, focusing on the “Images of Apollo.”

“The vintage prints I am selling in the auction are becoming harder and harder for collectors to find, but the images themselves are not rare,” Pickering wrote in an email to collectSPACE.

The Images of Apollo: The JL Pickering Collection auction, which concludes on Sept. 24, features more than 300 photos and film strips from the span of NASA’s first human missions to the moon. From the sight of Apollo 7 in Earth orbit to the last humans (to date) walking on the moon during the Apollo 17 mission, the sale centers on the images that documented humanity’s greatest adventure.

“We are incredibly excited to offer such an extensive collection of these

“My mother, Vania, has always transformed every moment of our family life into a small event. For the slightest outing, party or meeting, she made us look pretty and wanted a photo. (originally in French),” said the sidenote quoting Bundchen on a family portrait of the Bündchens taken in their home in Horizontina, a very small town in southern Brazil, featured in the 2003 Paris Vogue issue, among other unseen pictures. ““So, my father Valdir would

Rare Vintage Photos of Old Hollywood Stars at Home

There’s a major difference between the celebrities of today versus the stars of old Hollywood: social media. Today, fans have direct access to their favorite actors and musicians, and nothing is off-limits. They share what they had for breakfast, where they’re vacationing, and what the inside of their closets look like. But the same can’t truly be said for old Hollywood stars, like Marylin Monroe, Judy Garland, Lucille Ball, Vincent Price, and Elizabeth Taylor, right? Well, yes and no.

While it was a little easier for the stars of yesteryear to carry an air of mystery about themselves, these film and radio legends still managed to share a bit of their personal lives with adoring fans around the world, reminding everyone that behind the flashing bulbs of glamorous red carpet premieres, someone still needs to iron the clothes, cook meals, and sort through the mail.

These rare pictures of old Hollywood stars at home capture what their lives were like off set, from their hobbies to their baking and doing housekeeping tasks just like everyone else.

Fans erupt over vintage photo of TV newsreader Ann Sanders in the ’90s

A previously unseen throwback photo of veteran Channel Seven newsreader Ann Sanders proves she has barely aged a day in decades.

The 63-year-old’s colleague David ‘Kochie’ Koch posted a black and white photo on Instagram of the two journalists posing in a boardroom with TV doctor Dr John D’Arcy and former political editor Dennis Grant.

‘Blast from the 1990s. Going through some old photo albums and this popped up,’ Koch wrote in the caption.

The photo showed Sanders sitting in a chair while Koch, Dr D’Arcy and Grant stood behind him with their arms crossed.

Fans immediately noticed how little Sanders’ appearance has changed since the ’90s, with one commenting: ‘Ann Sanders doesn’t age!’

Haunting vintage images of the 1930s Dust Bowl – New York Daily News

The Dust Bowl of the 1930s brought more than hard times to America’s Heartland and Southwest. Known as ‘black blizzards,’ dust storms moved across the United States with devastating force. Take a look at these hauntingly eerie images highlighting the horrific weather phenomenon that rocked our nation’s center.

This storm pictured in 1935, was the worst storm of the decade-long Dust Bowl in the southern Plains. Daylight turns to total blackness by mid-afternoon in the Midwestern town of Ulysses, Kansas.
“Black Sunday” marked the worst dust storm in US history on April 14, 1935. Stratford, Texas is pictured four days later as the monstrous storm still lingers.

Iconic photographer Dorothea Lange captured several photos during the Great Depression like this image of rural Colorado. Lange snapped this photo as a huge, dark dust cloud swarmed over houses in a small Colorado community. The Dust Bowl was a huge contributing factor to our country’s struggle during the Great Depression.

Vintage photos from the Dayton area’s past holidays capture the timeless spirit of the season in the Miami Valley

During World War II, the citizens of Springfield were asked to drop coins into a kettle to “share your Christmas with a service man.” The generosity would be used “to send presents to the boys who had left the city.”

A young boy dives into a slice of pumpkin pie at Dayton’s annual Beerman Thanksgiving dinner. The event was founded in 1969 by Arthur Beerman, the founder of Elder-Beerman Stores Corp., who believed strangers should be treated like family.

Memories are made as families gather to light the menorah each night during Hanukkah, kitchens filled with the aroma of steaming latkes and jam-filled sufganiyot.

Generations of children have dressed as shepherds and angels to gather around a manger with a baby doll tucked inside at live nativity scenes.

Thinking of others has been a tradition for the Springfield Rotary Club for nearly a century. Since 1923, the club has thrown a Christmas party for children with disabilities bringing joy – and a visit from Santa – to hundreds of local children.

Even though the pandemic has changed the way we will observe the holidays, the spirit of the
